CGSV's Guitar Orchestra is conducted by Ben Dix, who also arranges much of the material.
Playing in the CGSV Guitar Orchestra is demanding but rewarding. You must be committed to rehearsals and performances, but your musical appreciation, performance, sight reading and technical skills will improve tremendously. Additionally, friendships develop between orchestra members, and you will experience a great sense of accomplishment from the concert performances.
Auditions
... for Season 2013 will be held on Sunday 24th February, 2pm at St Stephen's Anglican Church, Richmond. You must be a CGSV financial member to audition (you can join on the day, but better beforehand). Please come at 1pm to watch the first GO rehearsal for the year - this will give you an idea of the dynamics and requirements. You should be prepared to play 6 minutes of material of your choosing, preferably two pieces of different styles (perhaps from a recent exam, or things you like to play). Sight reading skills are very important in the orchestra, so you will be tested on this and one or two other things.
Rehearsal Etiquette
Orchestra members: e-mail or call if you can't make it; practice your parts before rehearsal; arrive 10 minutes before scheduled start time; bring your sheet music; listen to the conductor's instructions; watch the conductor's baton.
Concert Etiquette
Orchestra members: wear black; arrive 30 minutes before scheduled performance time; use a vibration tuner; do not tune compulsively or audibly between pieces - it's distracting to the audience.
